Education is both a goal in itself and a means for attaining all others goals. It is not only an integral part of sustainable development but also key enabler for it.
Our world is interconnected and complex. As a result, our students need to move beyond fragmented ways of thinking which look at problems in isolation or focus on short term solutions.
At Modern Delhi International School we have functional clubs, which aim at developing our students to be system thinkers, enabling them to see patterns and apply that learning both inside and outside school .The School has incorporated the SEWA principles as guiding light in designing all activities and learning objectives to prepare learners with SDG skills.
The various clubs at a glance are:
Painting makes the colours speak and express myriad emotions.
To give a suitable platform to budding and aspiring artists, the club has introduced various artworks like Portrait and folk art like Madhubani. The learners will assimilate their ideas and understanding of human anatomy, line strokes and use of colour perspectives to create their masterpieces.
It will also give them opportunity to learn and apply in daily life.
“Exercise not only changes your body, it changes your mind, your attitude and your mood.”
The club aims at creating trust, partnership, organisational and leadership skills among young learners in a fun way. Physical activities are designed to improve physical, mental and social well-being thus reducing behavioural issues and fostering mindfulness. Yoga and breathing exercises are incorporated to promote wellness and spiritual growth. The young learners will not only be fit and healthy but also develop trust, team spirit, sense of belonging and collaboration.
Achieving an optimal balance between the environmental, the economic and the social political sustainability is imperative for the wellbeing of the current and the future generations. Through the club activities we delve into ways where students can actively contribute to sustainable development, beyond the conventional classroom boundaries. The activities are centred around the basic tenets and principles learned in classrooms and then applied to solve real life problems. The learners are made aware of the natural imbalance and the impending crisis. They will try in their own way to contribute for sustainability around the 4 R’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover by forging common understanding of the world and are prepared as active and conscientious citizens of tomorrow.
